Frequently Asked Questions

How soon can we marry?
You need to lodge the Notice of Intended Marriage no sooner than 18 months before the wedding and no later than one clear month before the wedding. This needs to be signed by a duly authorised person and submitted to me your celebrant
Will you personalise a Ceremony for us?
My pleasure! I don’t have a standard script as I write individual ceremonies for every couple. It needs to be all about you and your love for each other. You can include added extras and have as much input into the ceremony writing as you wish.
How many witnesses do we need?
Two witnesses, over 18 years and who are aware of their obligations.
Do you hang around after the ceremony?
Only if you give me champagne! But seriously, I stay until the music you have selected has ended or you move away for photos.
What if you get sick?
I am part of a network of celebrants who help each other out should the need arise. I would provide you with another personally recommended celebrant.
Who can give me away?
Anyone can. Dad, Mum, both parents, siblings, or your children. It’s entirely your decision who, if anyone, you would like to walk down the aisle with you.
How long does the ceremony take?
On average, around 15-20 minutes. There is no set limit, the time depends on how many extra elements you have added to a standard ceremony.
Can I be late?
A little! It may be fashionable to be a few minutes late, but more than 15mins can cause concern. If your wedding ceremony runs late then the chances are the whole day will, the photography, catering, cars etc.
What do I sign on the certificate?
The bride signs her maiden name on all documents on the wedding day. Bride and groom sign their normal signatures.
Can we have a religious element?
Civil ceremonies are non-religious, however, if you wish to add a prayer, hymn, reading, or a blessing that is entirely up to you!
How do I change my name after the ceremony?
Changing your name is not automatic but occurs over a period of time. It happens when you change your ID documents over to your married name. I can provide you with all the information, and a comprehensive to-do list.
